Overview
The privacy of our users is important to us. When you visit a website in any browser, you automatically share information with that website, such as your IP address and cookies. On some websites you may also choose to share personal identifiable information (PII) that is linked or linkable to your identity as an individual. The Sign Language Dictionary (SLD) is committed to protecting the PII of our users and respecting applicable data protection laws around the world. This privacy policy explains how we do that and how it applies to your use of the SLD website, products, and services.
We will not ask for your PII. We are not interested in recording or retaining PII in order to market SLD products and services. We do, by regard, accept email correspondence and monitor access to our website so as to provide and promote SLD products and services, and to ensure the security of our website. SLD is not a business. SLD is a humanitarian endeavor. We have set out on this page more details on the categories of personal data that we do monitor, the specific ways that personal information is processed by us, and the legal bases that permit us to do so. We do not share your PII with third parties. We do not sell your PII to third parties.
We aim to defend our identity and data from being lost, stolen, or used in an unauthorized way. We are dedicated to maintaining and continually improving our information security. In line with ISO/IEC 27001 our website may be changed at our discretion to maintain the integrity of our security.
Your Privacy
Please be assured that your privacy is important to us. We want to inform you that, for each HTTP request (which is what your web browser generates when you request a page or part of a page from a website) received, a log file is generated. The type of information collected by that log file includes:
- the date and time,
- the originating Internet Protocol (IP) address,
- the type of browser and operating system used (if provided by the browser),
- the URL of the referring page (if provided by the browser),
- the object requested,
- the completion status of the request, and
- the pages visited.
Email Correspondence
By sending us an electronic mail message, you may be sending PII to us, such as your name and email address. We ensure that appropriate and suitable safeguards and technical measures are in place to protect your correspondence with SLD. However, your email correspondence with SLD may be stored and processed outside of the country where it is collected. To do this, we will only store and process data in countries that have been identified as providing adequate protection for data and other personal information, or to a third party where we have approved transfer mechanisms in place to protect your personal information.
We will only retain records of your correspondence with SLD for as long as is reasonably necessary for the purposes it was written, and in order to comply with any statutory or regulatory obligations in relation to retention of records. We will use your correspondence with SLD to improve our services.
COPPA Compliance
In accordance with the United States' Children's Online Privacy Protection Act of 1998 (COPPA), we will never knowingly solicit or accept PII from users known to be under 16 years of age without the written consent of the child's parent or guardian. If we discover that we have collected any PII from a child under the age of 16 without parental consent, we will immediately terminate communication with them, and all PII related to that user will be erased.
Your Rights
You have the right to request access to and rectification or erasure of your personal data, the right to restrict processing of your personal data, and the right to object to processing of your personal data. You have the right to object to your personal data being processed on the grounds of SLD's legitimate interests. You also have the right to lodge a complaint regarding our processing of your correspondence with SLD with a data protection supervisory authority in a country where you live, work, or where you believe a breach may have occurred.
